What This Blog’s About (Updated)

I suppose I’ll start this with a re-introduction. My name is Rory Milligan. I’m a 24-year-old author, poet, gamer–and writer of this mental health blog. I suffer from some mental health conditions: schizoaffective disorder bipolar type, panic disorder, borderline personality disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (in remission). I’m on a few different medications to treat these conditions, and I’m currently in a dialectic behavioral therapy (DBT) comprehensive program, complete with a skills group and individual therapy.

I decided to start this blog because I wanted to help spread awareness of mental illnesses and end the stigma. I am not a mental health professional obviously, but I know a lot about my own diagnoses and speak from my personal experience. I have done a couple of interviews with others who have mental illnesses on here as well and plan to do more.

I don’t know how this blog has impacted or will impact the people who read it, but I’m hoping to spread awareness and to help people feel less alone. Mental illnesses are heavily stigmatized, so much so that a lot of people don’t even want to talk about them. But a lot of people experience mental illness at some point, if not chronically as I do.

I am open to questions and comments too! You can comment on any one of my blog posts; @ me on social media–links to my Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, TikTok, YouTube, and Twitch are at the top and bottom of the page; or email me at my brand new business email (rmilligan@rorywriteplace.com), which can also be found on my About Me page.

I hope you enjoy my blog–welcome to Rory’s Write Place.
